On Wednesday, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh, received the Head of the High National Election Commission (HNEC), Emad Al-Din Al-Sayeh.

According to a statement by the Libyan Parliament, Saleh affirmed his “total rejection of all attempts to obstruct, with the intention of postponing the elections from their scheduled date on 24 December 2021.”

During the meeting, Saleh explained that among these attempts is to push the controversial draft constitution for a referendum, or “jump between the political settlement tracks to impose conditions aimed at procrastinating and confusing the political situation, in order to achieve the goal of postponement.”

Saleh stressed the right of the Libyan people to choose who governs them directly and in free, fair, and transparent elections. He added that any attempt to tamper with HNEC by any party was a clear obstruction to holding the elections on time.

Al-Sayeh confirmed to the Speaker, the full readiness of the commission in technical aspects to organize the elections on its scheduled date.
