The Head of Libya’s Presidential Council, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, hailed the opening of the main coastal road from Sirte to Misrata. He explained that this step represents an implementation of one of the most important provisions of the political agreement.

“Today, our efforts and the efforts of the loyal people of the country have been crowned with success in opening the main coastal road and lifting the suffering of our proud people,” Al-Mnifi tweeted on Sunday

He continued by saying that “we achieved one of the most important goals that we sought to achieve through a series of strenuous meetings that led to the realization of one of the most important provisions of the political agreement.”

Earlier today, the Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity (GNU), Abdelhamid Dbaiba, announced the re-opening of coastal road.

Last October, Libyan rival groups agreed to implement a permanent ceasefire and reopen the coastal road. They also agreed to form a Joint Military Commission (JMC) 5+5.
