On Monday, Italian President Sergio Mattarella called on Rome and Paris to raise the level of bilateral cooperation, in order to establish stability in Libya and the Sahel region.

In press statements, following a meeting at the Elysee Palace with his French counterpart Emmanuel Macron, Mattarella said that Europe can convey its message of peace and cooperation to neighbouring regions, such as Libya and the Sahel.

He pointed out that he talked with President Macron about the transatlantic affiliation, and the responsibility and cooperation that “we have towards countries, as is the case in Libya or the Sahel region.”

Notably, President Macron said that, “there has been friction over Libya that I think is part of the past,” and Italy and France are now “working closely,” and there are fruitful “results.”
