Libya Deports 19 Egyptian Minors

On Sunday, 19 Egyptian migrant minors were deported from the Tripoli Centre of Libya’s Anti-Illegal Immigration Agency.

The Media Office of the Tripoli Detention Centre said 19 Egyptians left Mitiga International Airport to Alexandria Airport, after issuing temporary travel documents to them from the Egyptian Embassy in the capital, Tripoli.

Libya has become a preferred transit point for African migrants who want to flee their countries and seek a future in Europe.

However, Libya struggles to combat “illegal”immigration. The International Organization for Migration (IOM) said the number of migrants has increased recently.

The IOM announced that at least 1,146 people died attempting to reach Europe by sea in the first half of 2021.

Deaths along these routes more than doubled so far this year compared to the same period in 2020, when 513 migrants are known to have drowned, the IOM noted.
