On Monday, the Speaker of the Libyan Parliament, Ageela Saleh, said that the Parliament is ready to adopt the presidential election law within the next two weeks. He stressed that the elections will take place on time, and without delays on 24 December 2021.

In press statements, Saleh added that the elections are wanted by the people, and remain the only solution out of the Libyan crisis. He pointed out that cancelling or postponing the elections will lead to “division, chaos, and the continuation of war.”

The Speaker called on all MP’s to “assume their responsibilities and attend the session” scheduled for Monday to vote on a draft budget law, issue the presidential and parliamentary elections laws, approve the distribution of electoral districts throughout the country, and respond to the Presidential Council regarding the nomination of a Chief of General Intelligence.
