The African Union’s (AU) office in Tunisia will Head to Libya to participate in observing the upcoming Presidential elections scheduled for 24 December, according to an official source on Monday.
The interim-Prime Minister of the Government of National Unity, (GNU), Ramadan Abu Jnah held a meeting with the Special Adviser to the Secretary-General of the United Nations on Libya, Stephanie Williams. He affirmed the government’s full readiness to conduct the elections on 24 December, describing it as the only solution to end the Libyan crisis.
Abu Jnah renewed his full support for the High National Elections Commission (HNEC), and for the success of the elections.
Meanwhile, the Speaker of the Arab Parliament said that he would respond to the Libyan government’s call to send a delegation to monitor the elections.
Earlier November, Deputy Head of the Libyan Presidential Council, Mousa Al-Koni met with the European Union Ambassador to Libya, Jose Sabadell and Head of Mission of the EU Border Assistance Mission (EUBAM) in Libya, Natalina Cea.
Al-Koni briefed Sabadell on the positive results of his recent trip to Brussels, and the immediate steps to be taken. He praised the efforts of the EU mission in standing with Libya, which requires international expertise and knowledge in addressing its many outstanding issues. He expressed his readiness to help overcome all difficulties facing the mission. They also discussed the sending of a European mission to monitor the electoral process.
