Italian Defense Minister Lorenzo Guerini confirmed Italy’s commitment to reaching a peaceful resolution to the Libyan conflict through multilateral agreements.

“A joint commitment starts from the decisions taken at the Berlin conference to return Libya to the framework of stability and calmness,” Guerini stated. He noted that Italy relied on the Berlin Conference as a basis for its work.

The Defense Minister reiterated his support for the EU’s naval mission ‘IRINI’ in helping to bring an end to the conflict by monitoring the UN arms embargo on Libya.

“It is important for the entire international community to bear responsibility … The Libyan crisis cannot be solved by war, but by trying to find paths to peace.”
