On Monday, the Libyan Audit Bureau has strongly condemned the kidnapping of the director of the Public Sector’s General Administration for Financial Control, Rida Qirqab, who has been forcibly detained earlier today upon an order of the Minister of the Interior, Fathi Bashagha.

In a statement, the Audit Bureau said that Qirqab has been kidnapped for declining to turn a blind eye to some illegal transactions of the Interior Ministry of the Government of National Accord (GNA), confirming that this is a flagrant violation of the law that granted him legal immunity in accordance with Article 38 of Law No. 19 of 2013.

It also regretted such illegal practices of the Interior Minister, staying “he is entrusted to maintain the law but became the first one to violate it”.

The Bureau confirmed that the kidnapping of Qirqab is a punishable offence by the law, calling for his immediate and unconditionally release.
