The Libyan Parliament’s Defense and National Security Committee praised the role of the Libyan National Army (LNA), in “protecting national security” after it downed a drone on the outskirts of Benghazi on Monday
It commended the role played by the armed forces to “defend and protect the lands and capabilities of the Libyans by land, air, and sea.”
The Committee strongly “rejected and condemned the foreign actions and attempts that contradict the principle of Libya’s national sovereignty. As well as the interference in the internal and external affairs of states in accordance with the resolution of the United Nations General Assembly (UNGA).”
It called on the UN and the Security Council to “assume their responsibility in front of these dangerous violations, which interfere in Libya’s internal affairs, and violate its national sovereignty.”
The committee affirmed that the “national responsibility of the LNA lies in combating terrorism and extremist groups, preserving Libya’s unity and security, and achieving peaceful coexistence and civil and social harmony.”
The statement stressed that the “armed forces are the guarantors of the civil state, the peaceful transfer of power, and respect for the democratic path.” It called on the countries involved in the Libyan crisis to “take this into consideration, and note the importance and necessity of joint cooperation with the general leadership, and legislative authority represented by the Parliament, and the true national forces in Libya to achieve these goals.”
