According to Italian news agency NOVA, Italian Deputy Foreign Minister, Marina Sereni, held a phone conversation, with Tunisian Secretary of State for Foreign Affairs, Salma Enneifer, to discuss the current situation in Libya.

Sereni expressed the Italian government’s concern regarding the renewal of hostilities in recent weeks, stressing that Italy does not believe in a military solution to the conflict.

“It is necessary to start the immediate cessation of hostilities. A ceasefire, and political dialogue, according to the results of the Berlin Conference on the Libyan crisis are needed.” Sereni said.

Sereni also stressed that the European Union’s ‘IRINI’ mission led by Italy, would be an important tool to implement the UN arms embargo on Libya, and combat human trafficking networks in the Mediterranean.
