Libyan Parliament Partakes in IPU Conference

A delegation from the Libyan Parliament will be participating in the 145th General Assembly of the Inter-Parliamentary in the Rwandan capital, Kigali.
The Rwandan Parliament will host the meeting from October 11-15.

The Libyan delegation is headed by the First Deputy Speaker, Fawzi Al-Nuwairi. It includes the Chairman of the Legislative and Constitutional Committee; Ramadan Shambash, and the Chief of the Parliament’s Office; Abdullah Al-Masry Al-Fadil.

The agenda of the meeting includes the election of the President and Vice-Presidents of the General Assembly, and the consideration of requests to include an emergency item in the agenda.

It also includes a discussion on advancing the local and regional development of countries experiencing high levels of international migration. As well as to stop all forms of human trafficking and human rights violations, in addition to discussing the reports of the permanent committees.

The work of the IPU General Assembly will witness the meetings of the Standing Committees, and the Governing Council. As well as the meeting of the Assembly of Secretaries-General of the national parliaments’ members of the IPU.

The meeting will be attended by more than a thousand delegates from 120 IPU member Parliament’s, including 60 Presidents and Vice-Presidents, according to a statement from the Rwandan national senate.

During the meeting, issues related to gender equality, human trafficking, climate change, food insecurity, and others will be addressed.

The organizers reported that the forum will facilitate exchanges on good practices related to gender conflicts, and encourage Parliament’s to engage in transformative actions.

Rwanda has one the highest representation of females in its Senate, in Africa.
