UK Government Calls for End to Hostilities in Libya

Speaking to Alaraby TV, UK Ambassador to Libya Nicholas Hopton said that the British government encourages all Libyan parties to reach a truce and return to the negotiating table.

Hopton said that the British government believes that only a comprehensive political process will succeed in bringing the parties together to make Libya stable and prosperous in the future, so none of these parties must set preconditions if they want to be involved in negotiations.

“We are very concerned regarding the US report that Russia has sent military jets to Libya”, he said.

The Ambassador stressed that sending individuals and warplanes to fight in Libya is a clear violation of the UN arms embargo imposed on Libya.
