Al-Najjar Says Sebha’s Epidemiological Situation is Developing Dangerously

On Saturday, the head of the National Centre for Disease Control (NCDC), Badr Al-Din Al-Najjar, revealed that the epidemiological situation in Libya is developing dangerously due to the increase in the number of people infected with Coronavirus in Sebha.

In his speech to 218 Channel, he assured that the monitoring and investigation teams are still working hard to identify those in contact with the cases in the city to perform the necessary medical tests and isolate them to ensure that the disease does not spread.

He explained that the lack of movement of citizens between neighbouring cities aims at containing the epidemic and mentioned the efforts of the state to raise the readiness of health centres to care for people infected with Coronavirus.

The NCDC Head pointed out that the epidemiological situation in Tripoli and the rest of the cities is stable, adding that the rate of infection registration has become minimal compared to cities in southern Libya.

Al-Najjar expressed his concern regarding the number of infections recorded after the return of those stranded abroad.

The NCDC is currently working on activating laboratories and distributing testing devices that have recently arrived in Libya to conduct laboratory samples for the Coronavirus and to facilitate the diagnosis process, early detection, and halting of the spread of the pandemic.

Al-Najjar stressed that the NCDC expected the spread of the virus in southern Libya due to the increase in infections in countries bordering Libya’s south.

On Friday, Libya’s NCDC announced that it had registered 13 new cases of Coronavirus in the country. All of the new cases are persons who had been in contact with infected cases from Sebha.
