Al-Sarraj To Head To Ankara On Thursday

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu announced on Wednesday that the Prime Minister of the Government of National Accord (GNA) Fayez Al-Sarraj will visit Ankara on Thursday.

He is due to discuss political solutions to the Libyan crisis, particularly after the recent escalation in fighting.

Cavusoglu indicated that Haftar would not be able to win the battle for Libya.

He noted that if Turkey did not interfere in the conflict, it would have become a street war.

Oil-rich Libya has been mired in chaos since the ouster and killing of Muammar Gaddafi in 2011. It now has two rival authorities and a multitude of militias vying for control of the country.

The country’s internationally recognised government is based in Tripoli, while Khalifa Haftar, the commander of the Libyan National Army, is supported by a parallel administration based in the east.
