Tripoli’s Hospital media office announced on Monday that circulating reports on local media regarding the presence of two patients with COVID-19 (“Coronavirus”) at the hospital are false. The hospital called on media outlets to verify such news in the future in order to avoid inciting panic.

The Libyan National Centre for Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control previously stated that no cases of COVID-19 have been detected in the country.

In a statement, the Libyan National Centre for Infectious Diseases Prevention and Control said a national committee had been formed to manage preparations and raise awareness on public health measures that should be taken to confront the virus.

So far thermal imaging cameras have been set up in all ports and visas for citizens of countries who have experienced the largest outbreaks of COVID-19 have been suspended.
