A video spread on social media showing the deportation of thousands of Egyptian migrants from Libya to their country through the Amsaad-Salloum land crossing.
The number of deported migrants is estimated at about 4,000 to 5,000, according to local media. The video shows the migrants running, being directed by forces that appear to be affiliated with the Libyan forces.
LibyaReview could not verify the authenticity of the video. However, the Egyptian Rassd News Agency reported that the video dates back to May 31st, 2023.
Neither the Egyptian nor Libyan authorities have officially commented on the video yet.
The Libyan authorities in the East of the country are waging an extensive security campaign to control migrants, as well as raiding crime dens.
In February, the Assistant Undersecretary of the Interior Ministry of the Parliament-designate government, Faraj Qaim, confirmed the launch of an expanded campaign to collect weapons in the areas controlled by the Libyan National Army (LNA).
He explained that this campaign was launched on the instructions of the Commander-in-Chief of the LNA, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar.
Qaim added that the expanded campaign “will include the searching of homes, and whoever refuses to hand over what is in his possession to the nearest camp or directorate will be referred to the Anti-Terrorism Prosecution.”
The Libyan security forces announced the seizure of “advanced and dangerous weapons” that were hidden in the desert, and due to be smuggled to Egypt, in February.
The Director of the Tobruk Security Directorate in eastern Libya, said in a press briefing that the “weapons were seized in the southeastern region, in the village of Jaghbub, after we monitored suspicious movements in the region.”
He added that the weapons were confiscated, and called on citizens to “take advantage of the seven-day deadline granted by the Ministry of the Interior to hand over their weapons.”
