Libyan Athletes Impress at North African Karate Championship


Libyan karate champions have achieved commendable results at the North African Karate Championship. The competition, which started in the Libyan capital on 26 July, and ends on Sunday, saw multiple Libyan champions return home decorated with prestigious medals.

Female Karate champions, Salma Al-Muadani captured the gold in the over 61 kg category, while Ghofran Salem triumphed with the gold medal in the under 48 kg weight division. In the same weight class, Wissam Freites secured the silver medal, further highlighting the Libyan athletes’ remarkable performance.

Anas Zarek and Mohamed Bin Laga clinched bronze medals in the individual kumite competition for adults. Meanwhile, Mohamed Fahmi Al-Juhani brought home a bronze medal in the individual kata competition in the adult category.

The competition also saw Hani Lotfi and Sand Abdelhamid Ashour winning bronze medals in the individual kata competition for youth. Manar Khaled El-Barki, and Raneem Lotfi secured bronze in the kumite under 50 kg youth category.

Anas Mohamed Al-Duba won gold in the kumite under 57 kg for the intermediate category, with Mohamed Akila Derman claimed gold in the kumite over 76 kg category for youth.

Ahlem Mohamed Boukhzam achieved double bronze in the intermediate kumite finals over 61 kg for young women, along with securing third place in the individual kata intermediate competition.

Zakaria Adel Rabeh clinched gold in the kumite under 55 kg category for youth, and Bashir Abdel Razek Salem Al-Duwibi won gold in the kumite under 63 kg category.

In the female division, karate champion Huda Ayad Al-Fakhri claimed the gold medal in the youth kumite final under 59 kg category. Hala Faez won the silver medal in the intermediate youth kumite competition.

Karate athlete Taha Al-Sahati clinched a gold medal in the kumite over 60 kg category, while Hamam Al-Qazzaz celebrated his silver medal in kata. Ali Al-Mughrabi concluded the outstanding performance of the Libyan team, with a bronze in the kumite under 57 kg category.

The success of these Libyan karate champions underscores the strong potential and talent within the country’s sports community, promising an exciting future for Libyan karate on the international stage.
