On Friday, Italian Foreign Minister Luigi Di Maio expressed his country’s conviction that the political solution to the Libyan crisis is still possible, as well as being the only viable solution.

In a press conference Di Maio announced that he would launch talks in the coming days with the Government of National Accord (GNA) in Tripoli, but also with “other Libyan parties to try to express concerns not only from Italy and Europe, but also from the entire international community” about the situation in Libya, according to the Italian news agency AKI.

“The next steps will be to encourage the parties to reach a ceasefire and start a political dialogue,” the Italian Minister said.
