The British Council has delivered two professional training workshops aimed at enhancing the skills of English language teachers in Libya’s public education sector, as part of ongoing efforts to improve teaching quality nationwide.
The workshops were organised in cooperation with the General Centre for Training and Education Development (GCTED), under the supervision of the Ministry of Education. They form part of the second phase of the English for Teaching programme, implemented within the broader TELLiL project.
According to the Ministry of Education, the initiative is designed to equip teachers with practical classroom strategies that can be applied immediately to improve student engagement and learning outcomes.
During the sessions, participants explored a range of effective teaching techniques, including classroom management methods and the use of icebreakers and warm-up activities to create a more interactive learning environment. The workshops also provided a platform for teachers to exchange experiences and share best practices.
Organisers said the training focused on simple, adaptable approaches that teachers can integrate into their daily lessons, helping to foster a more dynamic and student-centred classroom atmosphere.
The initiative is part of wider efforts to support educators and strengthen professional development across Libya’s education system. By enhancing teachers’ capabilities, the programme aims to raise the overall standard of English language teaching and improve learning outcomes for students.
Education officials noted that continued collaboration between international organisations and national institutions is essential to building sustainable improvements in teaching quality and classroom performance.
