In a strategic move to address the evolving needs of the job market, the Libyan Parliament-designated government held discussions to develop the University of Sirte. The meeting emphasized collaboration between the Ministry of Higher Education and Scientific Research, and the Ministry of Labour and Rehabilitation.
Minister Mehdi Shuaib Al-Sa’iti met with Minister Abdullah Al-Sharif Arhoma, to discuss the key points outlined in the memorandum of understanding signed with the University of Sirte. The focus will be on promptly studying and fulfilling the labour market requirements, to expedite the implementation of the ministry’s training plan.
Priority areas in the memorandum include conducting a thorough analysis of the job market needs, and swiftly addressing them for effective integration into the ministry’s training initiatives. The ministers also explored training courses for senior department managers, within the ministry. Additionally, they discussed organising seminars, conferences, and workshops concerning Law No. 12 of 2010, which deals with the issuance of labour relations, and its executive regulations.
The meeting highlighted the ministers’ commitment to supporting the University of Sirte with equipment distributed by the ministry, with future support envisioned as well. The university holds a prestigious position, having recently secured the second position in local university rankings.
This collaboration not only underscores the commitment of the Libyan government to academic excellence, but also signals a proactive approach to aligning education with the dynamic needs of the workforce. The emphasis on the University of Sirte’s development is particularly noteworthy, given its established reputation as one of the leading institutions in the country.
As the government focuses on bridging the gap between academia and industry, this initiative is poised to enhance the overall quality of education, ensuring graduates are well-prepared, and equipped with the skills demanded by the job market.
The government’s investment in training programs, workshops, and seminars for ministry officials underscores its dedication to staying abreast of legislative developments, such as labour relations law. This commitment ensures that the workforce remains well-versed in the legal frameworks governing employment, contributing to a more informed and compliant labour force.
