In a significant development aimed at bolstering air safety and security in Libya, the German Ambassador to Libya, Michael Ohnmacht, visited the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority. The visit underscores a collaborative effort to enhance the operational efficiency and safety standards within Libya’s aviation sector.

During his visit, Ambassador Ohnmacht expressed his satisfaction through a post on the social media platform X, highlighting his productive meeting with the Head of the Libyan Civil Aviation Authority, Mohammed Shalbik. Shalbik provided the Ambassador with an insightful overview of the successful digitalisation initiatives and various other measures implemented to strengthen air safety, security, and efficiency across Libya.

The Civil Aviation Authority’s media office revealed that the visit facilitated discussions on the concrete steps taken by the authority to address and fulfill the corrective action requirements outlined in the report by the International Civil Aviation Organisation. The discussions also covered the outcomes of the international audit teams’ visits in the previous year, 2023.

A key focus of the visit was the presentation by the Digital Transformation Project Manager, who briefed on the completed phases of the project. This initiative is pivotal in transitioning Libya’s aviation sector towards digital operations, enhancing transparency, and operational efficiency.

Moreover, the visit shed light on the monitoring mechanisms through a comprehensive database for airlines, flight crews, licensing, airworthiness, and maintenance. This system ensures direct oversight of compliance with established rules and regulations, marking a significant step towards international standards in aviation safety and security in Libya.

This initiative not only reflects the strengthening of Libya-Germany relations but also underscores the international community’s support for Libya’s efforts in enhancing its aviation sector’s safety and efficiency standards.

The Head of the Libyan Airports Authority, Mohamed Beit Almal, held a meeting with the Deputy Ambassador of Germany to Libya, to discuss potential collaborations in the aviation sector.

According to a statement from the Ministry of Transportation, the meeting focused on exploring the possibility of leveraging German companies’ expertise to enhance and develop infrastructure.

The discussions also covered supporting national personnel, in various areas relevant to the sector.
