The Libyan Government of National Unity has revealed plans to introduce an electronic visa (e-visa) system for foreigners, aimed at enhancing the process for obtaining residency and work visas. Scheduled to be operational by mid-March 2024, this initiative is in collaboration with the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation.
The development was disclosed during a meeting chaired by Prime Minister Abdulhamid Dbaiba, with attendance from the Minister of State for Cabinet Affairs, the Head of the General Authority for Information, and representatives from the Holding Company for Communications and the Passports and Nationality Department.
General Yousef Murad, Director of the Passports and Nationality Department, highlighted the e-visa system as a key objective for 2024, reflecting a significant step forward in modernizing Libya’s administrative services. The project is a joint effort with the General Authority for Information and the Holding Company for Communications.
Planned as a phased rollout, the e-visa system will initially focus on residency and work visas, with expansions to include various visa categories for temporary assignments by the end of June.
This initiative is part of Libya’s broader strategy to revitalize its international relations and infrastructure, facilitating access for foreign investors, tourists, and professionals. The move towards digital visa processing aims to position Libya in line with global digitalization trends, improving the efficiency, security, and overall experience of its immigration services.
