The Libyan Minister of State for Women’s Affairs in the Government of National Unity (GNU), Houria Al-Tarmal, held talks with Iran’s Vice President for Women and Family Affairs, Ensieh Khazali.
The meeting, which took place on the sidelines of the 68th session of the Commission on the Status of Women, focused on enhancing bilateral relations and fostering cooperation.
According to a statement from the Libyan Ministry, views were exchanged on matters of mutual interest between the two countries.
The latest high-level talks between the GNU and Iran occurred in December, coinciding with the visit of Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Health Ramadan Abu Janah to Tehran.
The Iranian Foreign Minister, Hossein Amir Abdollahian, then stated that relations between Iran and Libya were progressing positively. “We can swiftly implement agreements between the two countries, and we have no restrictions on developing relations,” he added.
Abdollahian hailed the development in the relation with Libya, saying the ties “are on the right track.”
He expressed Iran’s willingness to contribute to Libya’s reconstruction projects, thereby solidifying bilateral ties between the two nations.
The Iranian Foreign Ministry said Libya’s Deputy Prime Minister, Abu Janah conducted a fruitful meeting with Abdollahian in Tehran. This diplomatic engagement served as a pivotal platform for collaborative efforts. This allowed both parties to address mutual challenges and identify potential areas of cooperation between Libya and Iran.
This diplomatic exchange builds on the positive momentum initiated during the July visit of former Libyan Foreign Minister, Najla Al-Mangoush, to Tehran. The discussions reflected a shared commitment to expanding cooperation across various domains.
Notable agreements were reached, including the establishment of a joint high commission, the formation of political consultation committees and the enhancement of economic relations. They also focused on the promotion of scientific and technological collaboration and the coordination of specialised exhibitions.
The Iranian Embassy resumed its diplomatic presence in July. The first Iranian cargo ship arrived at Misrata, after a suspension of more than ten years, according to the Iranian ISNA agency.
