The Libyan Government of National Unity (GNU) stated on Saturday that a coalition of Egyptian companies continues to execute the Ubari-Ghat road project in southern Libya as part of the country’s development revival plan.

In January, the second batch of machinery for maintaining the Ubari-Ghat road arrived, according to Saleh Hamdan, responsible for project oversight in the Ubari municipality.

Prime Minister Abdelhamid Dbaiba granted the Housing and Utilities Projects Execution Authority a contract in September 2021 to implement the Ubari-Ghat road maintenance project, spanning 360 kilometers.

Repairing several roads in southern Libya is a demand from protesters who had shut down the Sharara oil field, with a production capacity of 300,000 barrels per day.

In January, the Libyan Parliament-designate Government embarked on a major project to construct 11 new bridges across three important Libyan cities – Derna, Benghazi, and Ajdabiya. This initiative, a collaboration with Egyptian companies, marks a pivotal step in Libya’s post-conflict reconstruction and development efforts.

This landmark agreement was signed by Libyan officials, including Belkacem Haftar, the Executive Director of the Reconstruction Fund for Derna and Affected Areas, and Hatem El-Arabi, the head of the Reconstruction and Stability Committee.

On the Egyptian side, the signatories included Ibrahim Al-Arjani from Neom Egypt and Hany Dahy of Wadi Al-Nil Company, indicating strong bilateral cooperation in infrastructure.

The project outlines six bridges in Derna, enhancing the city’s connectivity and urban landscape. These include pivotal structures like the Sea Bridge and the Al-Sahaba Mosque Bridge. In Ajdabiya, two key bridges are planned, crucial for easing urban traffic and facilitating movement. Additionally, Benghazi will see the construction of three vital bridges, significantly improving the city’s infrastructure.

As Libya progresses with these ambitious plans, the new bridges are expected to significantly improve transportation, stimulate economic activities, and uplift the living standards of its citizens.
