Haftar Urges “National Decision” to Restore Libya’s Security

Libya faces deep-rooted crises due to political failures, corruption, and the proliferation of weapons outside state institutions, Field Marshal Khalifa Haftar, Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan National Army (LNA), stated. Speaking during a meeting with tribal elders from the western coastal regions at the Haftar Military City in Benghazi, Haftar stressed that the country’s restoration depends solely on the free will of the Libyan people.

The Commander-in-Chief highlighted that only a national decision, free from foreign influence, can halt cycles of mismanagement and restore the state to stability. “The solution cannot be imposed externally; it must emerge from the people who have a legitimate stake in Libya’s future,” Haftar asserted.

The meeting, attended by Prime Minister Osama Hammad and Chief of Staff Lieutenant General Khalid Haftar, served as a platform for dialogue with tribal representatives. Elders expressed appreciation for the LNA’s efforts in consolidating security, safeguarding unity, and promoting development. They pledged full support to assist in maintaining social cohesion and countering threats to national stability.

Haftar praised the tribes for their solidarity, recalling their collective support during Storm Daniel in Derna, a moment he described as a source of national pride. The Commander emphasized that Libya’s path to stability requires the active involvement of citizens in governance and decision-making processes, and a commitment to eradicating corruption and lawlessness.

The LNA’s engagement with tribal leaders reflects a broader strategy to involve local communities in state-building, reinforcing security, and fostering national reconciliation.
