The U.S. Ambassador to Libya, Richard Norland, recently concluded a productive meeting with Mohammed Raied, a Member of Parliament and Chairman of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Libya, in Misrata.

The meeting focused on enhancing trade relations and business opportunities between Libya and the United States, aiming to bolster Libya’s economy through increased investment and entrepreneurial initiatives.

During their discussion, Ambassador Norland emphasized the importance of building robust economic ties which can lead to sustainable development and economic stability in Libya. “Our goal is to foster a thriving business environment that not only attracts American investors but also promotes Libyan entrepreneurship,” said Norland.

This meeting is part of a series of engagements by the U.S. Embassy in Libya to support economic growth and stability through international cooperation. Strengthening the economic ties between the U.S. and Libya is seen as crucial in supporting Libya’s ongoing efforts towards a more stable and prosperous economic environment.

Mohammed Raied expressed optimism about the potential for future collaborations. “Enhancing our trade relations with the United States represents a vital component of our strategy to rejuvenate Libya’s economy,” Raied remarked. He highlighted the importance of such international partnerships in bringing much-needed expertise and investment into Libya.

The discussions also touched on various sectors where U.S. businesses could contribute, including technology, agriculture, and manufacturing, marking a forward path in the bilateral relations that aim at economic recovery and growth in Libya.

Notably, the United States Embassy in Libya has announced a significant contribution to the municipality of Abu Salim—a sophisticated machine capable of recycling construction debris. The embassy highlighted that the device can process up to 80 tons of recycled building materials per hour, providing essential resources for the sustainable reconstruction of Abu Salim.

According to the embassy, a representative from the U.S. Agency for International Development (USAID) in Libya, Cardenas, observed the machine’s operations earlier this week. The machine efficiently converts rubble into new construction materials, demonstrating a commitment to supporting local development across Libya.
