The US Envoy to Libya, Richard Norland, reiterated his country’s support for economic stability and national reconciliation in Libya.
Norland, along with Acting US Embassy Charge d’Affaires Jeremy Brent, held talks in the capital, Tripoli, with the Presidential Council Head, Mohamed al-Mnifi.
They discussed how the US can assist Libyans in protecting their sovereignty amid regional turmoil and reviving momentum for the UN-led political process, enabling Libyans to choose their leaders.
According to the US Embassy’s statement on “X” platform, they explored ways to break the current deadlock in Libya and work towards agreements leading to elections.
They emphasised activating the High Financial Committee due to the inability to reach a unified constitutional budget law and the importance of all parties participating to address basic requirements, prioritize spending, and tackle inflation.
Earlier, Norland concluded a productive meeting with Mohammed Raied, a Member of Parliament and Chairman of the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture of Libya, in Misrata.
The meeting focused on enhancing trade relations and business opportunities between Libya and the United States, aiming to bolster Libya’s economy through increased investment and entrepreneurial initiatives.
During their discussion, Ambassador Norland emphasized the importance of building robust economic ties which can lead to sustainable development and economic stability in Libya. “Our goal is to foster a thriving business environment that not only attracts American investors but also promotes Libyan entrepreneurship,” said Norland.
This meeting is part of a series of engagements by the U.S. Embassy in Libya to support economic growth and stability through international cooperation. Strengthening the economic ties between the U.S. and Libya is seen as crucial in supporting Libya’s ongoing efforts towards a more stable and prosperous economic environment.
Mohammed Raied expressed optimism about the potential for future collaborations. “Enhancing our trade relations with the United States represents a vital component of our strategy to rejuvenate Libya’s economy,” Raied remarked. He highlighted the importance of such international partnerships in bringing much-needed expertise and investment into Libya.
