The Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee in Libya’s House of Representatives (HoR) Youssef Al-Agouri held a meeting with the Libyan Government’s Minister of State for Illegal Immigration Affairs, Fathi Al-Tubawi, at the House of Representatives headquarters in Benghazi.
The House of Representatives stated in a press release that the meeting addressed the challenges and obstacles impeding the Ministry’s work.
During the meeting, Al-Agouri reviewed the situation in Kufra due to the influx of displaced persons from Sudan and discussed the role of foreign humanitarian organizations in providing the necessary response.
Al-Agouri affirmed the Foreign Affairs Committee’s support for the Libyan government and the Ministry of Immigration regarding the organisation of the African-European Migration Conference scheduled to be held in Benghazi this May.
He highlighted that the conference would be a significant opportunity for coordinating efforts between European and African countries to alleviate the crisis of irregular migration and find suitable solutions that consider the humanitarian aspect.
Al-Agouri also outlined the Foreign Affairs Committee’s vision for the Ministry’s priorities, which include reforming the legal framework related to migration and coordinating efforts with related ministries based on the national migration strategy adopted by the House of Representatives.
Days ago, Youssef Al-Agouri, Chairman of the Foreign Affairs Committee, met with the Greek Consul, Agapios Kalognomis. The discussions focused on the latest political developments in Libya and ongoing cooperation programs between the two nations.
Al-Agouri highlighted the strong link between Libya’s security and stability and that of Europe, emphasizing the Parliament’s stance on the need for all foreign forces and mercenaries to withdraw from Libyan territory as a precondition for the country’s stability.
On the topic of migration, he stressed the importance of joint coordination with Greece to address unprecedented migration flows, which pose a significant challenge for both countries.
Additionally, Al-Agouri expressed gratitude towards Greece for its support in various areas, especially following Hurricane Daniel. He also underscored the importance of having a Greek consulate in Benghazi, praising its role in facilitating travel procedures for citizens of both countries and lauding the Greek school in Benghazi for keeping its doors open during difficult times, reflecting positively on bilateral relations.
For his part, Kalognomis reaffirmed Greece’s commitment to enhancing relations in all fields and being a friend to all Libyans.
