Libyan Army Celebrates 85th Anniversary

The Libyan National Army (LNA) marked its 85th anniversary on August 9, 2025, commemorating the day in 1940 when the nation’s first organized military units were formed.

On this occasion, the Army’s Department of Moral Guidance extended heartfelt congratulations to all members of the armed forces, officers, non-commissioned officers, soldiers, civilian staff, and to the Libyan people as a whole.

In its message, the Department renewed its vow of loyalty to the legacy of the nation’s founders, who fought and sacrificed their lives to liberate Libya from colonial rule and secure its independence. It emphasized that the Libyan Army remains committed to continuing its mission, safeguarding national sovereignty, and ensuring security and stability across the entire country.

The statement highlighted the military’s role as one of the most vital national institutions — a symbol of unity and a guarantor of independence. It stressed that the Army will continue to protect Libya’s borders, defend its sovereignty, and uphold the principles of honor, service, and sacrifice. This pledge comes at a time when Libya continues to navigate significant political and security challenges, reinforcing the need for a strong and disciplined military force.

The anniversary also recalls the Army’s origins during World War II, when Libyan volunteers joined Allied forces, laying the foundations for the modern military. Over the decades, the institution has evolved to meet changing national and regional realities, but its core mission, defending the homeland and preserving its independence, has remained unchanged.

Concluding its message, the Department of Moral Guidance prayed for Libya’s safety and called for unity among citizens, affirming that national solidarity is essential to achieving peace, stability, and prosperity.
