Seventeen Egyptian companies from the medical, pharmaceutical, medical supplies, and personal care industries are set to participate in the 16th Healthcare Exhibition and Conference in Tripoli, Libya. The event will take place from June 24 to 27, 2024, aiming to boost Egyptian exports in the medical sector to the Libyan market and foster mutual cooperation.
Egypt will showcase a large pavilion at the 16th Healthcare Exhibition and Conference in Tripoli. This participation is organised by Expo Consultant International, the Medical Export Council, and the Egyptian Exhibition and Conferences Authority.
In 2023, Egypt’s medical and pharmaceutical exports reached $611 million. In the first four months of 2024 alone, the medical sector achieved exports worth $214.5 million.
According to trade representation data, Egypt’s total exports to Libya amounted to $1.824 billion by the end of 2023, compared to $1.214 billion in 2022. This marks a significant increase of 50.2%, equating to a rise of $609.654 million.
The United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) has announced its ongoing initiatives to provide essential health services to the Libyan population.
According to a statement released by UNSMIL, Assistant Secretary-General, Resident and Humanitarian Coordinator for Libya Georgette Gagnon visited Ghadames General Hospital. During her visit, Gagnon met with healthcare workers and discussed the challenges they face in delivering medical services to everyone in the region.
The statement further detailed, “The United Nations in Libya is collaborating with the government and local healthcare providers, along with community groups, to enhance health services for the benefit of all across Libya.”
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the international community to support Libya in stabilizing and improving its public health infrastructure, ensuring that all Libyans have access to necessary medical care amidst ongoing national challenges.
Earlier, Gagnon attended a crucial meeting in Ghadames. During the meeting, she discussed the peace and sustainable development in Libya.
The session brought together the acting mayor of Ghadames, the municipal council, local community leaders, as well as young people and women, to deliberate on pressing matters affecting the region.
The discussions highlighted the critical need for stability, enhanced transportation infrastructure, and urgent improvements in water systems, healthcare, and education to better serve the local population. Additionally, the meeting focused on addressing the immediate concerns of local farmers and creating more employment opportunities for youth and women.
In a post on the “X” platform, Gagnon said: “I joined the acting mayor of Ghadames, members of the municipal council, local community leaders, and the youth and women in their beautiful city to discuss peace and sustainable development.”
