The Chairman of Libya’s National Oil Corporation (NOC), Farhat Bengdara, met with the Egyptian Ambassador to Libya, Tamer Hefny, and his delegation on Wednesday at the NOC headquarters in Tripoli.
According to a statement by the NOC on Facebook, the meeting focused on various topics, including mechanisms to enhance cooperation with Egyptian companies in the fields of contracting and oil services. Both parties discussed ways to strengthen bilateral relations and explore opportunities for joint ventures in the energy sector.
This meeting follows a recent discussion between Bengdara and the Turkish Ambassador to Libya, Kenan Yilmaz, along with officials from the Turkish company TIPEC, held at the NOC headquarters. The discussions with the Turkish delegation, which included several NOC technical directors, explored avenues for economic cooperation in the oil sector and potential joint projects with Turkish companies in various fields.
The NOC is keen to leverage the expertise of foreign firms to support Libya’s oil industry, which is vital for the country’s economy. Ambassador Hefny reiterated Egypt’s commitment to supporting Libya’s efforts in stabilising and expanding its oil sector. Similarly, the Turkish delegation expressed a strong interest in enhancing economic ties and participating in Libya’s oil sector development.
These meetings mark significant steps in fostering closer economic ties between Libya and its international partners, focusing on mutual benefits and shared interests in the energy sector.
Notably, the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas plans to strengthen cooperation with Libya’s energy sector. This includes resuming stalled projects by Indian companies in Libya.
This was discussed during talks between Pankaj Jain, Secretary of the Indian Ministry of Petroleum and Natural Gas, and Mohamed Khalil Issa, Deputy Minister for Political Affairs at the Libyan Ministry of Foreign Affairs.
Previously, Indian Oil Corporation Limited, ONGC Videsh Limited, and Oil India Limited had invested in exploration and production projects in Libya.
