The High National Elections Commission of Libya (HNEC) has reported that as of now, a total of 164,203 voters have registered for the upcoming municipal council elections. The statistics released by the commission indicate that 120,688 men and 43,515 women have enrolled across Libya.

Due to the increased participation in the voter registration phase by the citizens of the targeted municipal councils, the commission has extended the registration deadline to July 13, 2024. This extension is aimed at accommodating those who have encountered difficulties in entering their names and details in the voter registry.

Emad Al-Sayah, Chairman of the High National Elections Commission, participated in an educational seminar titled “Mirrors of the Municipal Council Elections” organized by the December 24 Movement in cooperation with the Misrata Electoral Management Office. The seminar, which carried the slogan “Returning to the Democratic Path in Libya,” focused on the importance of the democratic process and aimed to increase awareness about municipal elections. It also highlighted the election laws and regulations governing the municipal council elections.

This seminar is part of the commission’s efforts to proceed with the municipal council elections, which began with the opening of voter registration on June 9, 2023.
