Coach Milutin Sredojević, known as Micho, has renewed his contract as the head coach of Libya’s national football team, the Mediterranean Knights.
Originally set to expire at the end of September, the Serbian’s contract has been extended for 16 months. Abdulhakim Shelmani, president of the Libyan Football Federation, announced the extension of the Serbian coach’s contract during a press conference.
Last October, the Libyan Football Federation signed Micho to lead the national team for a year. Under his tenure, the team has shown improvement, winning 8 out of 13 matches, including victories against Mauritius, Burkina Faso, Eswatini, Kuwait, Sudan, Liberia, and Indonesia twice. They drew friendly matches against Togo, Niger, Somalia, and Cameroon, and suffered one defeat to Cape Verde.
According to sources close to “winwin,” Abdulhakim Shelmani agreed to Micho’s condition for signing the new contract, which includes an increase in his current monthly salary of $27,000 from the Libyan Football Federation.
The Serbian coach, who took over coaching duties last October, is preparing the Libyan national football team for the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers, hosted by Morocco from December 21, 2025, to January 18, 2026. This decision to renew Micho’s contract comes amidst time constraints as the Mediterranean Knights prepare for these qualifiers.
Libya will start their qualifying campaign in September, drawn into Group D alongside Nigeria, Rwanda, and Benin—a challenging group where the top two teams will directly qualify for the finals.
