Senegalese coach Aliou Cisse has officially announced his departure as head coach of the Libyan national football team, ending his tenure with the Mediterranean Knights despite having a contract that extended until June 2027.

Cisse confirmed his exit on Wednesday through a statement posted on his official Instagram account, revealing that the team’s March training camp was his final gathering as Libya’s national team coach.

He described his time with Libya as a valuable professional and personal experience, saying the role had been a meaningful chapter in his coaching career. Cisse noted that despite the challenges faced during his tenure, he was proud of the work accomplished with the players and technical staff.

In his farewell message, the former Senegal coach praised the commitment of the squad and expressed confidence in the team’s future. He said he believes the players will continue to develop and move forward, stressing that the foundations for future progress have been laid.

Cisse also thanked Libyan supporters for the warm welcome and strong backing he received throughout his time in charge. He said the passion and support of the fans would remain unforgettable and expressed his belief that the national team can continue relying on its supporters in future competitions.

The Senegalese manager took charge of Libya in March 2025, succeeding Nasser Al-Hadiri, in a move widely seen as part of efforts to rebuild and strengthen the national team. His appointment generated optimism due to his experience and reputation in African football, particularly after leading Senegal to continental success.

His departure comes as a surprise, given that his contract still had nearly two years remaining. No official explanation has yet been provided regarding the reasons behind his early exit.
