On Tuesday, Berniq Airways (NB), Libya’s flagship airline, placed a firm order with Airbus for six A320neo family aircraft. Based at Benghazi Benina International Airport (BEN), Berniq Airways already operates six A320s and aims to further develop its regional and international routes with this new investment.

Waseem Ezzway, Chairman of Berniq Airways, expressed pride in the airline’s achievement, stating, “We are proud to be the first airline in Libya to order the advanced A320neo family aircraft. This significant investment marks a new chapter for Berniq Airways as we continue to lead the way in modernizing our fleet and enhancing our service offerings.”

Benoît de Saint-Exupéry, Executive Vice President of Sales of Airbus’ Commercial Aircraft business, commented, “It is a pleasure to see Berniq Airways expanding its fleet with the world’s best-in-class single-aisle aircraft. The A320neo family will enable the airline to provide its customers with unparalleled comfort while offering the airline exceptional economic advantages.”

The A320 family is the world’s most popular single-aisle aircraft, with more than 18,000 orders from over 300 global customers. The A321neo, the largest member of the A320neo family, features new generation engines and sharklets, delivering a 50% noise reduction and at least 20% fuel savings and CO2 reduction compared to previous generation single-aisle aircraft.

Notably, the entire A320 family can operate with up to 50% Sustainable Aviation Fuel (SAF), with Airbus aiming for 100% SAF capability by 2030.

The 2024 Farnborough Airshow, scheduled for July 22-26, will feature live coverage of FIA2024 from the Farnborough International Exhibition & Conference Centre in the UK, where industry leaders will discuss the latest advancements in aviation technology.

Berniq Airways, established in 2018, has rapidly positioned itself as a key player in Libya’s aviation sector. With its base at Benghazi Benina International Airport, the airline has focused on connecting Libya with the rest of the world, providing reliable and modern air travel options for both domestic and international passengers. The addition of the A320neo family to its fleet marks a significant step in its expansion and modernization strategy.
