On Saturday, the Italian Parliament announced that the Libyan Parliament Speaker Ageela Saleh is set to pay an official visit to Rome for a meeting with his Italian counterpart Roberto Fico, scheduled for the coming Tuesday.

On July 3, Saleh held a meeting with Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov in Moscow to discuss launching an immediate ceasefire in Libya and engaging the parties to the conflict in a comprehensive political dialogue in the country to address the current crisis.

Lavrov explained that the Cairo Declaration and the Berlin Conference outputs could be a starting point for a political dialogue in Libya.

The Russian Minister pointed out that the Libyan crisis could not be solved by military means and announced a decision to reopen the Russian embassy in Libya, which will at this stage be headed by the Chargé d’Affaires Jamshed Boltaev, who will temporarily be based in Tunisia. His functions will include representing Russia across all of Libya’s territory.
