The Chairman of Libya’s Management Committee of the Arabian Gulf Oil Company (AGOCO), Mohamed Ben Shatwan, has urged the American firm Solar Turbines to establish a maintenance and service centre near Libya. This facility would ensure the availability of essential spare parts and the timely completion of maintenance work.

Ben Shatwan’s request was made during a meeting with Derrick York, the President of Solar Turbines, along with the company’s regional director for Europe, North Africa, and the Middle East. Also in attendance was the General Manager of Caterpillar, another American company.

Emphasising the importance of investing in Libyan talent, Ben Shatwan stressed the need to train a significant number of Libyans. He expressed confidence in the capabilities and professionalism of the local workforce. His comments were highlighted in a statement posted on AGOCO’s official Facebook page.

In recognition of the achievements at the Sarir oil field, particularly the success of Solar Turbines’ involvement in the project, Ben Shatwan presented the company with a shield of appreciation.

Ben Shatwan also called for the swift maintenance of the mobile turbines at the Sarir field, which require a major overhaul. He noted that AGOCO’s success is closely tied to the performance of Solar Turbines.

In response, Caterpillar’s General Manager reaffirmed the company’s readiness to provide the necessary support and assistance in maintaining and upgrading the equipment used by oil companies in general.
