Libyan Presidential Council Head, Mohamed Al-Mnifi, met with Sudan’s Sovereign Council leader, General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan, to discuss issues surrounding border security, the fight against terrorism, and organised crime.

The meeting took place on Thursday evening in New York, on the sidelines of the 79th session of the United Nations General Assembly, according to a statement from the Libyan Presidential Council’s media office.

During the discussions, both leaders emphasised the longstanding ties between Libya and Sudan, focusing on the shared challenges of border management and regional stability. They explored ways to strengthen cooperation in securing their common borders, which have been a point of concern due to the rise in cross-border criminal activities, including terrorism and trafficking.

Al-Mnifi and al-Burhan also discussed the importance of continued coordination and consultation between the two nations in regional and international forums. This is seen as critical for addressing not only bilateral concerns but also broader issues affecting the region, such as the movement of armed groups and illicit goods across borders.

The two leaders reaffirmed their commitment to enhancing bilateral relations to serve the interests of both nations, with a focus on improving security and fostering economic cooperation. They underscored the importance of working together to counteract threats posed by terrorism and organised crime, which remain significant issues for both Libya and Sudan.

The meeting between al-Mnifi and al-Burhan highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in maintaining regional security and stability, especially given the ongoing challenges both countries face.
