Spanish Foreign Minister Arancha González Laya reviewed the latest developments in Libya with the Government of National Accord’s (GNA) Foreign Minister Mohamed Siala in a phone call on Wednesday.

Laya expressed her hope that political talks would resume, as well as the 5+5 military talks based on the Berlin Conference outputs. Siala emphasized the improvements in the situation in Tripoli and the gradual return of life to the south of the capital, one of the main battle grounds of the conflict.

He expressed his hope that “the GNA’s forces will enter the city of Sirte without bloodshed”. The two sides also discussed bilateral relations and political and economic cooperation.

They also addressed the possibility of providing technical assistance in demining operations and medical coordination in terms of COVID-19, benefiting from Spain’s experience in order to limit its spread in Libya.
