The Libyan Football Federation has responded to the allegations made by Nigeria’s national team, which has been stranded at Al-Abrak Airport since Sunday, clarifying that the situation was not deliberate.
In an official statement published on its social media platform “X,” the Libyan Football Federation expressed concern over reports suggesting that Nigeria’s flight was intentionally diverted away from Benghazi Airport.
The federation expressed regret for any inconvenience caused to the Nigerian delegation, emphasizing that such situations can occur due to routine protocols related to air traffic control.
The statement also reaffirmed that the Libyan Football Federation holds great respect for the Nigerian team, stressing that the diversion of the flight was not intentional.
In its statement, the federation pointed to the challenges faced by the Libyan national team last week upon their arrival in Nigeria, noting that no accusations were made or doubts cast about the integrity of Nigerian authorities.
The Libyan Football Federation emphasized that the claims made by the Nigerian delegation contradict the values and principles it upholds, denying any ill intentions.
The statement concluded by highlighting that hosting such events is a great honor for the Libyan Football Federation. The federation expressed its hope to resolve the misunderstanding in a spirit of cooperation and goodwill, reiterating that Libya’s doors remain open to their Nigerian brothers and all African teams.
