On Tuesday, Libya’s Ministry of Defense delegation attended the African Defense Ministers’ Conference in Addis Ababa, Ethiopia.
The conference brought together African defense ministers, military chiefs, and commanders of East Africa’s rapid intervention forces to discuss pressing security challenges and collaborative solutions for the region.
Libya’s delegation was led by Deputy Defense Minister Colonel Abdel Salam Al-Zoubi, alongside Major General Mahmoud Hamza, head of military intelligence, and senior officials responsible for border security and counterterrorism efforts.
The conference focused on strengthening regional cooperation through intelligence-sharing, joint military operations, and the development of a strategic roadmap aimed at enhancing stability and security across the continent.
Organized by Ethiopia, this three-day event is the first African Defense Ministers’ Conference hosted by Addis Ababa and operates under the theme “Africa, in Strong Unity, for Global Security and Peace.”
Libya’s participation in the conference signals its efforts to reassert itself as a key player in African security after years of internal conflict. The country is actively seeking closer collaboration with its African neighbors to tackle shared challenges, including terrorism, cross-border crime, and the need for stronger intelligence networks.
By engaging in this forum, Libya aims to build partnerships that will support its own security initiatives, especially in stabilizing its borders and neutralizing militant threats that have taken advantage of the country’s instability.
As the host nation, Ethiopia plays a pivotal role in fostering greater defense cooperation across the continent. With Addis Ababa being the headquarters of the African Union, the country is at the center of many critical security discussions. Ethiopia’s strategic location and involvement in peacekeeping missions reinforce its leadership in shaping Africa’s approach to tackling regional security challenges.
The conference is expected to strengthen collaboration among African nations, enabling them to address common threats through collective intelligence, joint military operations, and a unified strategy for peace and security.
The outcomes of the African Defense Ministers’ Conference are expected to improve coordination and security collaboration across the continent. For Libya, engaging in these discussions provides a platform to align with regional efforts that will enhance its internal security and help stabilize the broader region.
