The Mayor of Kufra, Masoud Abdullah, has raised concerns over the significant strain the city is facing due to the daily influx of approximately 500 Sudanese refugees. The mayor emphasized that the situation is creating serious security and health challenges for the community.

In an interview with Al-Raed, Abdullah stated, “The rising number of refugees has led to several security challenges, with incidents of theft and violations being reported, adding pressure on the city’s security forces.”

According to the mayor, the Sudanese refugees are settling across various locations, including shops, farms, and other areas throughout the city. “So far, over 100,000 refugee families have settled in the city, many of whom suffer from health conditions such as hepatitis, AIDS, malaria, and tuberculosis,” he added.

In response, Kufra has established a fully-equipped health center to provide necessary medical care and treatment for the refugees. Additionally, humanitarian organizations are working to supply blankets and food to support the displaced families.
