The Libyan Ministry of Interior has released statistics on traffic accidents for the third quarter of the year, highlighting a concerning rise in road incidents.

The report revealed 2,384 traffic accidents, resulting in 629 fatalities, 1,006 serious injuries, and 933 minor injuries.

Additionally, 3,857 vehicles were damaged, with estimated material losses totalling 20,001,000 Libyan dinars.

The ministry attributed the high number of accidents to violations of traffic laws, including speeding, mobile phone use while driving, and unsafe overtaking. Poor vehicle maintenance was also identified as a contributing factor.

The Ministry of Interior emphasised that road safety is a shared responsibility, urging drivers to adhere to traffic rules and avoid risky behaviours to reduce accidents and save lives.
