Libya has agreed to provide 50 fully funded scholarships for Iraqi students, marking a step towards enhancing educational cooperation between the two nations.
The agreement followed discussions between Ahmed Al-Sahhaf, Iraq’s Acting Ambassador to Libya, and Libya’s Minister of Higher Education, Imran Al-Qeeb.
Al-Sahhaf added that Libya committed to settling outstanding financial dues for Iraqi professors employed in Libyan universities, in accordance with legal procedures.
He further noted that Libya approved the provision of 50 scholarships for Iraqi students as part of efforts to strengthen educational exchange.
The ambassador also highlighted an agreement to streamline procedures for verifying academic credentials of Iraqi students residing in Libya.
Additionally, Al-Sahhaf pointed out the possibility of employing Iraqi academic professionals in Libyan universities, particularly in fields such as medicine, engineering, pharmacy, and medical technologies.
He introduced the Iraqi initiative “Study in Iraq”, aimed at attracting Libyan students to pursue higher education in Iraqi institutions. The programme seeks to foster stronger ties and provide Libyan students with opportunities in Iraq’s well-established universities.
Both parties underscored the importance of education as a vital tool for strengthening bilateral relations, enhancing cultural exchange, and meeting the professional needs of both countries.
