China’s chargé d’affaires to Libya, Liu Jian, has affirmed Beijing’s commitment to enhancing trade and investment cooperation with Libya.

During a meeting with Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, Jian highlighted the eagerness of Chinese companies to resume their projects in Libya and take part in new initiatives, particularly in infrastructure development, energy, and construction sectors.

According to a statement by the Ministry of Economy, Jian assured that the Chinese Embassy would facilitate procedures for businesses and investors through coordination between the relevant authorities in both countries.

Minister Al-Hwaij emphasised the importance of supporting the private sector, which he described as the cornerstone for developing and diversifying Libya’s economy. He reiterated Libya’s commitment to providing the necessary facilitation for Libyan companies and investors engaged with China.

The minister also encouraged Chinese businesses to enter the Libyan market and strengthen their engagement with Libyan chambers of commerce and business owners. This step aims to explore promising investment opportunities across multiple sectors.

Al-Hwaij proposed the creation of a joint action plan to organise a forum for Libyan business leaders in China, along with an accompanying exhibition to be held in Tripoli and Beijing. This initiative will be coordinated with the General Authority for Exhibitions and the General Union of Chambers of Commerce, Industry, and Agriculture.

The meeting reflects both nations’ interest in fostering stronger economic ties and opening avenues for enhanced collaboration, particularly as Libya seeks to rebuild its infrastructure and diversify its economy through international partnerships.
