The United States Chargé d’Affaires in Libya, Jeremy Berndt, held talks with Libya’s Acting Foreign Minister, Taher al-Baour, reaffirming Washington’s commitment to supporting the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL) and advancing the country’s political process.

In a statement following the meeting, Berndt emphasised the importance of Libya achieving unity and overcoming its divisions. “The United States fully backs UNSMIL’s efforts to move Libya closer to a sustainable political solution. We are committed to safeguarding Libya’s sovereignty and working towards its stability,” he stated.

The discussions also covered ways to enhance bilateral relations between Libya and the United States. Berndt underscored his country’s willingness to support initiatives that promote national reconciliation, institutional unification, and governance reforms.

The meeting comes amid ongoing international and domestic efforts to break Libya’s political deadlock and pave the way for elections. Both officials agreed on the importance of ensuring Libya’s sovereignty is respected and its territorial integrity preserved.

This development aligns with broader U.S. engagement in Libya, focusing on political stability, economic partnerships, and cooperation on security matters. Berndt reiterated Washington’s readiness to partner with Libyan authorities and international stakeholders to achieve lasting peace and stability.
