Authorities in eastern Libya have launched a large-scale process to release detainees who have been cleared by courts or granted release orders, in what officials describe as a step toward reinforcing the rule of law and protecting individual rights.

The initiative is being overseen by the National Committee for Monitoring Prison Conditions, operating under the Office of the Deputy Commander-in-Chief of the Libyan Arab Armed Forces. The committee, headed by legal advisor Ibrahim Bushnaf, began implementing the release decisions late last night, with operations continuing into today.

The move follows the completion of all required precautionary measures and legal procedures. It has also received backing from Lieutenant General Saddam Khalifa Haftar, Deputy Commander-in-Chief, signaling high-level support for the process.

According to officials, the releases apply specifically to detainees who have received final acquittals or formal release orders issued by the Public Prosecution or relevant courts. Authorities confirmed that the process is being carried out in coordination with judicial bodies to ensure full compliance with legal rulings.

The step is part of broader efforts to reinforce judicial authority and uphold legal guarantees in detention practices. By enforcing court decisions, officials aim to address long-standing concerns over prolonged detention without legal basis and to demonstrate commitment to institutional accountability.

The committee emphasized that the process is ongoing and will continue until all eligible detainees are released. It also stressed that the operation is being conducted under strict oversight to ensure transparency and adherence to legal standards.

Observers say the move could contribute to improving trust in judicial institutions, particularly as Libya continues to navigate political and security challenges. Strengthening respect for court rulings is widely seen as a key pillar in stabilizing governance and promoting human rights protections across the country.
