The US Chargé d’Affaires to Libya, Jeremy Berndt, met with Libya’s Minister of Economy and Trade, Mohamed Al-Hwaij, in Tunis to discuss strengthening economic ties and enhancing transparency to foster a better business environment.
In a statement released following the meeting, Berndt expressed his satisfaction with the discussions, emphasising the importance of mutual cooperation.
“We discussed ways to enhance economic collaboration between the United States and Libya and the critical role of transparency in improving Libya’s business climate and fostering stronger trade and investment links,” he said.
The talks reflect growing interest from both nations to revitalise trade relations and encourage foreign investment in Libya. The meeting addressed opportunities to improve economic stability and create a more attractive environment for international businesses.
Transparency and governance were key topics, with both sides acknowledging that an improved regulatory framework is crucial for achieving sustainable economic growth in Libya. The US has long supported Libya’s efforts to stabilise its economy amid ongoing political and social challenges.
This engagement aligns with the broader goals of the international community to aid Libya’s reconstruction and integration into global markets. Strengthening economic partnerships with countries like the United States is seen as a vital step toward diversifying Libya’s economy, reducing reliance on oil revenues, and fostering job creation.
The meeting concluded with commitments to further dialogue and collaboration in trade and investment sectors, signalling a shared vision for future cooperation.
