Libya’s Sarraj Declares State of Emergency

Prime Minister Fayez Al-Sarraj of the GNA declared a nationwide state of emergency on Sunday to prevent the outbreak of the Covid-19 virus (commonly know as coronavirus) in Libya.

Al-Sarraj allocated 500 million Libyan dinars ($360.54 million) to combat the disease, announcing the closure of all ports into Libya for three weeks, starting March 16.

Misrata’s International Airport recently declared that it will no longer allow the entry of non-Libyan citizens as one of its precautionary measures.
Similar measures have been taken by eastern-based Interim Government.

Despite there being no confirmed cases of the virus, Libyan authorities have been taking strict measures to prevent a public health emergency from taking place in the country.
