The Libyan Parliament-designate government, led by Prime Minister Osama Hammad, called on Thursday for the international community to oppose attempts to displace Palestinians from Gaza. It also stressed the need for a sustained ceasefire and the uninterrupted flow of humanitarian aid to the besieged territory.
The statement comes amid widespread condemnation from Palestinian leaders, Arab nations, and several countries worldwide over a reported U.S. proposal by former President Donald Trump advocating for American control over Gaza and the displacement of its residents to Egypt and Jordan. While Trump claimed that “everyone loves” his proposal, it has sparked strong opposition from Hamas, the Palestinian Authority, and international powers, including Brazil, France, the UK, Germany, and Turkey.
In a statement, Hammad’s government firmly rejected all actions aimed at undermining Palestinian rights, including “the legitimisation of settlements, land annexation, and forced displacement, whether temporary or permanent.” It reaffirmed Libya’s unwavering stance on the Palestinian cause and pledged full support for the Palestinian people’s rights, particularly their right to establish an independent and unified state with Jerusalem as its capital.
The government also emphasised the importance of removing all barriers to humanitarian aid, ensuring the reconstruction of Gaza, and securing a dignified life for its residents.
Furthermore, the Libyan Parliament-designate government urged the international community to uphold its legal and moral responsibilities in halting ongoing violations by the occupying force. It called for concrete measures to support the legitimate rights of the Palestinian people and achieve lasting justice and peace.
